Services / Parent Child Interaction Therapy
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an intensive treatment program that is designed to help both parents and children. The PCIT program works with parents and children together to improve the quality of the parent-child relationship and to teach parents the skills necessary to manage their child’s behaviour difficulties. Our PCIT therapists have received training through UC Davis Medical Centre under the University of California.
The PCIT program consists of two parts:
1) Relationship Enhancement component and
2) Discipline component and is appropriate for children who:
Are between the ages of 2 and 8 years and exhibit many of the following behavioural concerns:
- Difficulty in school, preschool, and/or day-care
- Aggression toward parents, siblings, and/or other children
- Talking back to their parents
- Refusing to follow directions
- Frequent temper tantrums
- Swearing
- Defiance
Treatment can be conducted with biological, foster, or adoptive parents.
PROGRAM
The average length of time spent with each family is 8 to 12 sessions, but may vary depending on individual circumstances. PCIT offers skills based coaching in the following areas: shaping your child’s behaviour, building your child’s self esteem and confidence, encouraging your child’s independence and self control.

$55 assessment (2-4 sessions), $33 per therapy session. No family turned away due to financial reasons.
