Rainbows

When something happens in a family, the whole family is affected. Even though death or divorce appears to be a grown up problem, it does have a profound effect on the children it touched. If a parent dies, or separation or divorce occurs, not only do adults grieve, but the children grieve also. Because of their age, and short life experiences, children find it extremely difficult to verbalise their feelings. The primary goal of Rainbows is to provide a safe, loving environment for young people to sort through their pain and confusion, build self esteem and learn coping tools to deal with their losses.

The Rainbows program is for children aged 5-16 years who have been affected by death, divorce or separation. Rainbows is not counselling or therapy, children sort through their sense of loss through the channels of peer support. Caring, trained adults facilitate each group helping children put their feelings into words, work through their grief, and begin to accept what has happened in the family.

Our next Rainbows program commences Tuesday 27th July 2010 at 4pm. Groups run for 45 minutes each week over 2 school terms.

The fee for the program is $50 per child for the full 14 week program. Fees are payable prior to commencement of the program. In financial difficulty reduced fees can be organised. No family will be turned away due to financial reasons.
